FAQs
About The Dance Factory
From the Director
1.) How do I know my child is progressing well in class?
We encourage you to attend our parent watch weeks. At this time you are able to view your child’s class in progress. The instructor is available to answer questions and demonstrate correct movement, so you can actually see your child learning. Your child should leave class with a feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction. Encourage your child to show you what they have done in their lesson. Younger children should be encouraged to “play dance” at home. Put music on and watch as your child moves. He or she will begin to have more and more control over their movements.
2.) My son has expressed an interest to dance. Do boys dance at The Dance Factory?
Yes! We currently have 22 young men in our 2007/08 fall program. We offer boys hip hop classes as well as ballroom and tap. Many boys find that ballet helps with the foot and leg coordination. As a result, we have worked with several soccer coaches to assist in the training of their athletes. We have had the star football quarter back of our local high school team in our school for 7 years before he graduated. He still believes that ballet gave him the agility he needed to be so competitive for his size.
3.) Do you have a dance team that par takes in competitions?
We have competition groups. These are students that have performed in the previous years recital and have expressed an interest to compete. We re-work the piece to accommodate the interested students.
4.) Which competitions do you go to?
We normally attend 4 dance competitions/workshops in a season. Our first is NYCDA. This is a combined competition and workshop specializing in all areas of jazz. This usually takes place in late January. Primarily our third grade and up attend. Next we attend DuPree. This is a family oriented program that is generous in ribbons and hugs. It is a wonderful and positive experience for the “less experienced” dancer. Very well run program. This normally takes place in February or March. DuPree is a again a competition as well as workshop. In addition, we attend just competitions. ShowStoppers which is held in Elgin Ill, as On Stage America which is normally in Madison, WI.
5.) Where do I find dance shoes for my child? Do you sell them at your studio?
Our boutique, Banana Dance wear carries a full line of dance shoes, tights, leotards, and coverups. We have over 400 pair of shoes and can special order practically anything you need.
6.) When do classes begin?
Classes begin the second week of September and run through June. Our schedule will, for the most part stay the same. We often will add additional classes as we need them.
7.) How do I register?
You can register in person, or by calling and speaking to one of our staff members. We strongly encourage you to try a complimentary class prior to registering. This ensures that the child truly understands what they are registering for. There is a difference between Modern Dance and Hip Hop.
